The Social Study: Bioluminescence
The Social Study: A Lecture on Bioluminescence Tuesday, April 14 | 6:30 pm Complimentary for Members The Social Study is a local initiative hosting lectures on various topics in San Diego, Orange County and San Francisco. The events begin with one hour of networking with small bites and a cash bar, followed by the second hour of the lecture itself. This month, our esteemed member, Eric Gagnon, hosts Dimitri Deheyn, a marine biologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, focused on bioluminescence, biofluorescence, and marine ecotoxicology. His work examines how marine organisms generate and alter light signals as he observes, quantifies, and tests these changes to detect stress and contaminants, supporting ocean health, environmental monitoring, and conservation.
