Our Story

Established in 1894, The Houston Club is one of the oldest private clubs in the southwestern United States. Founded by city leaders who helped shape Houston’s growth into a thriving business center, the Club became a gathering place for those making an impact on the city, with distinguished Members over the years including former President George H.W. Bush and former Secretary of State James Baker.

Today, The Houston Club continues that tradition from its setting 49 stories above downtown. Timeless design, exceptional dining, and panoramic skyline views provide the backdrop for productive workdays, memorable celebrations, and meaningful connections that bring Members together.

Through its association with the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Club becomes increasingly business-oriented, bringing together leaders helping shape the city’s growth.

Opening Doors Wider

The Club welcomes its first African American Member, followed by its first woman Member in 1982, broadening its membership to better reflect Houston’s growing and increasingly diverse business community.

One Shell Plaza Houston, TX

A New Home Above Downtown

The Houston Club joins forces with the Plaza Club and moves to the 49th floor of One Shell Plaza. A $3.5 million renovation introduces new dining, meeting, and event spaces while carrying the Club’s historic name into a new chapter.

The Houston Club features chef-driven dining, private meeting spaces, executive boardrooms, coworking offices, curated events, fitness access, concierge services, and reciprocal privileges at numerous clubs globally. Situated on the 49th floor in downtown Houston, it offers a blend of business, dining, and social experiences with panoramic skyline views.
What makes the Club unique?
Steeped in Houston history, The Houston Club has long been a destination where relationships are built and community thrives. From business meetings to milestone celebrations, the Club continues its tradition of connecting generations of Houston leaders.
Is parking available for guests?
The Club is located on the 49th floor in downtown Houston. Complimentary parking is available on weekends and on weekdays after 5:30pm in our underground garage. Member validation is provided during all other business hours at the 811 Louisiana Garage.
How do I schedule a tour of the Club?
Book a tour through our website or contact a Membership Director directly.
Do I need to make an appointment or can I just stop by?
Appointments are recommended to ensure a Membership Director is available to customize your visit.
How quickly can I join after touring?
Membership applications are often approved within a few days, so you can begin enjoying the club almost immediately.
Are non-members able to dine at the Club?
Dining is reserved for Members and their invited guests. From time to time, we host select ticketed events; availability is announced in advance.
Can I bring a guest to the Club?
Yes. Guests are welcome when accompanied by a Member (or pre-registered). Please check in at reception on arrival.
