Art Reception with Athenaeum

The Arts Committee and Athenaeum Music & Arts Library Present: Patron Gift Exhibition Tuesday, April 23 | 6 - 8 pm Complimentary to Attend Join the University Club's Arts Committee as we welcome the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library for the Patron Gift Exhibition! This exhibition celebrates a diverse array of one limited edition artworks commissioned by Athenaeum, to be gifted to Patron level Members. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of art while supporting our local cultural community. Join us for an evening of inspiration and appreciation. Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the chance to mingle with fellow art enthusiasts and representatives from the Athenaeum. The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s Patron Gift program. Each year, the executive director commissions an artist who has recently exhibited to create a limited-edition artwork to be gifted to members at the Patron level ($1,500) and above. The program began in 1994 with the first commission given to artist Ming Mur-Ray, who created a black-and-white photographic collage of the Athenaeum’s main gallery, and has included local favorites as well as internationally recognized artists over the years. The presentation of the commissioned artwork is always an eagerly anticipated event for Athenaeum members. Those giving at the Patron level and above are invited to a special celebration in June, where the board, executive director, and staff show appreciation for the members’ support and patronage. The 30 artworks that comprise this collection include two-dimensional prints and photographs, painted wood, embroidered vinyl, silk-screened textile, ceramic and porcelain sculpture and artists’ books. A selection of two-dimensional artworks in the Patron Gift Collection are presented at the University Club Gallery from Monday, April 22 through Saturday, July 27, 2024. The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is one of only 17 memberships libraries in the United States. Established in 1894 and incorporated in 1899, the Athenaeum provides library resources in music and the arts and presents more than 200 programs and cultural events annually at two venues, La Jolla and Logan Heights. This rare cultural institution offers a depth and accessibility of resources and programs found nowhere else in the region, including exhibitions, art classes, jazz, chamber, acoustic and new classical music concerts, art history lectures, and more. The La Jolla location is home to a unique library with a robust collection of books on art and music and an internationally-known collection of artists’ books, in addition to an art school, a music room, and a gallery. The Athenaeum Art Center (AAC) in Logan Heights includes a gallery, a print studio, and a classroom outfitted with a kiln. Both locations are open 5 days a week and are free to the public. With programs that bridge the divide between history and cutting-edge contemporary, the Athenaeum connects audiences across disciplines and decades. A bastion of freedom and peace, the city has successfully weathered near-constant attacks from the Cult of Tutu, who have besieged it for three centuries, attempting to destroy its warriors and subjugate its people. Seventeen-year-old Osi is a Junior Peacekeeper in the City. When the mysterious leader of the Cult, known only as the Aleke, commits a massacre in the capitol and steals the sacred God's Eyes, Osi steps forward to valiantly defend his home. Art Reception with Athenaeum

The Arts Committee and Athenaeum Music & Arts Library Present: Patron Gift Exhibition Tuesday, April 23 | 6 - 8 pm Complimentary to Attend Join the University Club's Arts Committee as we welcome the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library for the Patron Gift Exhibition! This exhibition celebrates a diverse array of one limited edition artworks commissioned by Athenaeum, to be gifted to Patron level Members. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of art while supporting our local cultural community. Join us for an evening of inspiration and appreciation. Light refreshments will be served, and attendees will have the chance to mingle with fellow art enthusiasts and representatives from the Athenaeum. The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s Patron Gift program. Each year, the executive director commissions an artist who has recently exhibited to create a limited-edition artwork to be gifted to members at the Patron level ($1,500) and above. The program began in 1994 with the first commission given to artist Ming Mur-Ray, who created a black-and-white photographic collage of the Athenaeum’s main gallery, and has included local favorites as well as internationally recognized artists over the years. The presentation of the commissioned artwork is always an eagerly anticipated event for Athenaeum members. Those giving at the Patron level and above are invited to a special celebration in June, where the board, executive director, and staff show appreciation for the members’ support and patronage. The 30 artworks that comprise this collection include two-dimensional prints and photographs, painted wood, embroidered vinyl, silk-screened textile, ceramic and porcelain sculpture and artists’ books. A selection of two-dimensional artworks in the Patron Gift Collection are presented at the University Club Gallery from Monday, April 22 through Saturday, July 27, 2024. The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is one of only 17 memberships libraries in the United States. Established in 1894 and incorporated in 1899, the Athenaeum provides library resources in music and the arts and presents more than 200 programs and cultural events annually at two venues, La Jolla and Logan Heights. This rare cultural institution offers a depth and accessibility of resources and programs found nowhere else in the region, including exhibitions, art classes, jazz, chamber, acoustic and new classical music concerts, art history lectures, and more. The La Jolla location is home to a unique library with a robust collection of books on art and music and an internationally-known collection of artists’ books, in addition to an art school, a music room, and a gallery. The Athenaeum Art Center (AAC) in Logan Heights includes a gallery, a print studio, and a classroom outfitted with a kiln. Both locations are open 5 days a week and are free to the public. With programs that bridge the divide between history and cutting-edge contemporary, the Athenaeum connects audiences across disciplines and decades. A bastion of freedom and peace, the city has successfully weathered near-constant attacks from the Cult of Tutu, who have besieged it for three centuries, attempting to destroy its warriors and subjugate its people. Seventeen-year-old Osi is a Junior Peacekeeper in the City. When the mysterious leader of the Cult, known only as the Aleke, commits a massacre in the capitol and steals the sacred God's Eyes, Osi steps forward to valiantly defend his home.
