York Developments is a family-owned Real Estate Development Company based in Hattiesburg, MS founded by Bennett V. York.
Land touches every human being on the planet and land has been the focus of the York Family for over 50 years. With their beginnings rooted in Timberland, the York Team has left its mark and signature on thousands of acres and millions of square feet across nearly every Real Estate sector. Each and every York deal sprung from dirt. Each project represented a blank canvas to create and build beautiful places and spaces for thousands of families to work, shop, store and live. In 1985, Bennett York commenced construction of the award winning “Canebrake.” The master-planned community features a 250-acre recreational lake crafted by York from the Mississippi Woodlands. In 1989, Canebrake won Southern Living’s “Best Residential Development” award.
In 1994, Bennett's daughter, Paige York, joined York Developments and spearheaded the launch of new phases of the community including Canebrake Golf Community and Canebrake Golf Club, which officially opened in 1998 and won the accolade of “Best New Public Affordable Course” in the Country. The Jerry-Pate designed, 18-hole, par-71 golf course is more than 7,000 yards long and is an enjoyable, challenging course for golfers of all skill levels. The course became private within a few years and Canebrake Country Club is now home to over 900 Members and the William Carey University Golf Team.
